The Portage Park Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a "Get To Know Your New SSA 2 Sole Service Provider" Meet and Greet at El Capitan Coffee & Snacks on Tuesday, March 24th, from 4pm - 6pm for the businesses located within SSA. The Small Business Improvement Fund (SBIF) accepts grant applications each month in various TIF districts across Chicago. Eligible businesses must submit their application during the month-long application window for their TIF district to qualify for funding. To find out if and when SBIF grants are available for your business, search the address on the eligibility page . Workforce Solutions Program The City of Chicago provides financial assistance for job training through the Workforce Solutions program managed by the Department of Planning and Development. The program subsidizes training for incumbent workers and new hires for qualified Chicago businesses. Workforce Solutions reimbursement grants are funded through Tax Increment Financing (TIF) and proceeds from the 2025 Housing and Economic Development Bond. Reimbursement grants up to $250,000 may fund up to 100% of eligible expenses for businesses seeking to train current employees and/or new hires. Grants do not have to be repaid. The program is administered by Employment and Employer Services on behalf of the City of Chicago. BACP Entrepreneur Certificate Program The Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP) Entrepreneur Certificate Program is a free program for anyone interested in starting or growing a business in Chicago to gain knowledge across various essential business topics. Since the program launched, more than 1,000 Chicago entrepreneurs and business owners have successfully completed the program. All Program graduates, who meet criteria and are based in Chicagoland, are eligible to apply for: the Entrepreneur Loan Program with BACP’s partner, CIBC Bank USA . college credit with City Colleges of Chicago (CCC).     30th Ward Zoning Process The 30th Ward Office has established the following process for reviewing projects requesting zoning map amendments and similar changes: Applicant submits Zoning Intake Form - Part 1. Meeting with Alderwoman and/or staff. Applicants submit Zoning Intake Form - Part 2. Project is reviewed by the 30th Ward Community Zoning Committee (CZC) meeting. CZC issues recommendation to Alderwoman. If project is judged to be significant or controversial enough, public meeting will be scheduled. If not, then neighborhood will be flyered and feedback requested from residents. Feedback indicating controversy will trigger a public meeting (#5). Alderwoman makes decision on project.

    Community Zoning Committee The 30th Ward Community Zoning Committee (CZC) was created by Alderwoman Ruth Cruz in 2024 as part of her promise to implement a community-driven zoning process in the 30th Ward. The CZC is composed of nine community members from the 30th Ward. Members were selected from 57 applicants to represent perspectives from all corners of the ward. The CZC meets monthly to review zoning and development proposals and submits its insights to Alderwoman Cruz and her staff, who work directly with property owners, business and civic leaders, developers, and City agencies to make informed zoning decisions for the ward.     Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) Accessory dwelling units (ADUs) - basement and attic apartments, granny flats, and coach houses - are permitted throughout Chicago beginning April 1. Visit the City's dedicated ADU webpage for the most up-to-date information about ADU policies and procedures. ADUs will be permitted in all residential multifamily zones and most business and commercial zoning districts in the City. In the 30th Ward, single-family districts will allow ADUs, except in precincts 1, 4, 9, and 21. ADUs in single-family districts in the ward will be subject to the following restrictions: Properties must be owner-occupied at the time of application. Only a certain number of ADUs will be permitted per block face (i.e., the street side of properties) per year: 1 permit in RS-1 districts, 2 permits in RS-2 districts, and 3 permits in RS-3 districts. In addition, coach houses in any zoning district will have to be constructed or renovated by contractors who participate in an apprenticeship program registered with the US Department of Labor.

Participatory budgeting is central to our mission, giving residents a direct voice in allocating public funds to projects that enhance our neighborhood.
