The Small Business Improvement Fund (SBIF) accepts grant applications each month in various TIF districts across Chicago. Eligible businesses must submit their application during the month-long application window for their TIF district to qualify for funding. Workforce Solutions Program The City of Chicago provides financial assistance for job training through the Workforce Solutions program managed by the Department of Planning and Development. The program subsidizes training for incumbent workers and new hires for qualified Chicago businesses. Workforce Solutions reimbursement grants are funded through Tax Increment Financing (TIF) and proceeds from the 2025 Housing and Economic Development Bond. Reimbursement grants up to $250,000 may fund up to 100% of eligible expenses for businesses seeking to train current employees and/or new hires. Grants do not have to be repaid. The program is administered by Employment and Employer Services on behalf of the City of Chicago. BACP Entrepreneur Certificate Program The Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP) Entrepreneur Certificate Program is a free program for anyone interested in starting or growing a business in Chicago to gain knowledge across various essential business topics. Since the program launched, more than 1,000 Chicago entrepreneurs and business owners have successfully completed the program. Community Zoning Committee The 30th Ward Community Zoning Committee (CZC) was created by Alderwoman Ruth Cruz in 2024 as part of her promise to implement a community-driven zoning process in the 30th Ward. The CZC is composed of nine community members from the 30th Ward. Members were selected from 57 applicants to represent perspectives from all corners of the ward. The CZC meets monthly to review zoning and development proposals and submits its insights to Alderwoman Cruz and her staff, who work directly with property owners, business and civic leaders, developers, and City agencies to make informed zoning decisions for the ward. 2025-26 Participatory Budget Results The votes are in for the 2025-2026 30th Ward Participatory Budget! Thanks to everyone who voted—we received 379 valid votes from 30th Ward residents for projects in three sections of the ward: western, central, and eastern. Projects only competed against each other within each section, rather than across the whole ward. The winning areas to be addressed, and the runners-up, are shown below. You can find a map of the locations here and the full voting results here . We will request traffic studies from the Chicago Department of Transportation for the winning locations and the runners-up. CDOT will propose solutions for each location and provide us with estimated costs. Up to $500,000 in menu money set aside for participatory budget projects will first go towards implementing projects in the winning locations, but surplus funds will then be used for runner-up locations to the extent possible. We will keep you informed about progress on these locations and the planning and implementation of projects for making them safer.
